This course introduces students to a number of different approaches to reading the Bible as one big story. By engaging with the best contemporary thinking on biblical interpretation, students will be equipped to critically reflect upon their own lives and ministry practice in light of their place within God’s Story.
Along the way, students will explore the backstory to the Bible, learning about how it came to be, in order to gain a greater appreciation for the Christian tradition of seeking God’s voice through reading and applying scripture.

Using the Apostles Creed, the course will introduce the theology of God, Christology, theology of the Holy Spirit (pneumatology), theology of the church (ecclesiology), and theology of salvation (soteriology) and the end times (eschatology).

This course unfolds the narrative of the New Testament, through the different gospel accounts of Jesus Christ’s coming into the world; the dramatic expansion of God’s Kingdom through Peter, Paul and the apostles in Acts and the letters; and the challenges and wonder of the emerging community of God called the Church.
The course fills out the historical, cultural and religious world of the NT, and will explain the different types of writing in the NT, so that participants will gain a clearer understanding of the background, content and purpose of each book.
