When Jesus meets a person, it’s not just a casual chat – it’s a deep encounter that changes the person’s life. No-one remains the same after meeting Jesus: either they become a follower with a transformed life, or they are deeply shaken and reject him. There is no middle road.
In this course we will watch Jesus meeting with different people in Luke’s gospel. With each encounter we see the person’s life open to Jesus as he shares himself with them. People are changed from the inside out: healed in their inner being, minds renewed, desires transformed, actions changed. As we re-visit these extraordinary encounters, we’ll invite Jesus to come and meet with us in the same way - not just once, but again and again.

For believers, the story of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, is our family story. It's like flicking through the photo album and being reminded of who we are, warts and all. We see joys and sorrows, children and childlessness, romance and strife, faithfulness and favouritism, jealousy and reconciliation, hope and loss.
But first of all, this story is about the God who calls this family his own! He calls himself the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob (Exo 3:6). He is the God who invites us to trust his promise, that through this family, he will bring about his saving plans for the whole world.

Life can be like a good novel: different chapters (seasons and stages); turning points and crossroads. Numerous events can fill each page: changing jobs, the making and breaking of relationships, grief & loss, retirement, and so on. How then do we make sense of our own life cycle be it in our twenties or seventies? How do we navigate life changes? What is needed to do transitions and life passages, such that we can leave a past and start a future?

The Gospel of John seems so simple and straight-forward – Jesus through the eyes of the disciple that He loved. But do we, as 21stC Western Christians appreciate the same Jesus that those early Jewish believers did? Do we appreciate:
What John meant when he called Jesus the Logos?
Why Zaccheus offered to pay back four times as much as he defrauded?
Why the High Priest tore his robe at Christ’s confession of divinity?
Why the soldier did not break Jesus’ legs on the cross?
The Bible is so much a Jewish book that is steeped in the Old Testament, and John is especially so. It is when we discover the roots of Christianity, that we appreciate the Bible as one continuous revelation of the mind of God to us.
