The letter to the Romans is Paul’s powerhouse statement on humanity and history from God’s perspective, delivered to people living in the great teeming city at the centre of the Empire… people of all persuasions, backgrounds and status. Any pride they might have in being at heart of the Empire is shattered by Paul’s fearless description of every human’s fundamental failure – and every heart is then lifted by his powerful exposition of the great grace of God that saves us all. This letter – Paul’s magnum opus - is not for the faint-hearted. He is direct, unequivocal and impassioned in his arguments, and yet also compassionate and pastoral in his encouragements.
